Improved blood bag tag design

Following the initial success of the first version of the patented Blood Bag tag BRENMOOR have re-designed the product to add even more functionality.

Blood unit identification is an area that is governed by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) and the tag complies with all aspects of their guidance.

As hospitals move to identify units of fluid or blood as efficiently as possible the advantages of the tag are immediately recognisable. They are simple to use and implement are economically priced, print without inks and have no need for luggage tags and string to attach them to the unit of fluid.

The tag includes a number of removable labels and perforated sections, all designed to ensure that the transfusion of the unit is easily, quickly and safely recorded. Each blood bag identification tag is supplied completely blank which allows the individual hospital to design an individual template to print onto the tag.

A number of UK and worldwide hospitals are already using the standard newly designed tag. Brenmoor have also made alterations to the tag and produced bespoke versions for a specific application or method of working after a request from an individual or group of hospitals.

Simple & Brilliant

BRENMOOR printable wristbands are used in more UK hospitals than any other printable wristbands. On the back of the success of the wristbands Brenmoor have released new products that hospitals now trust and rely on as much as they do the wristbands.

PATscan replicates the patient information held on a wristband onto another wristband or label by simply scanning the barcode. It takes less than a second for the label to print an exact replica of the patient demographic onto this new label. It is quicker and more accurate than hand writing tube or sample labels as the chance of human error is completely removed.

Blood Bag Tag’s are a quick and economical method of identifying the contents of a blood bag whilst at the same time complying with every aspect of the MHRA guidelines. Older methods of identifying the blood bags involved printing labels, sticking them to luggage tags before then securing the luggage tag to the blood bag by either string or cable ties. The blood bag tags can also be used just as succesfully to identify other fluid bags in hospitals such as saline, drugs and food suppliments. There is significent interest in these products from abroad and Brenmoor have applied for world wide patents.

STAB labels are a patented designed to be stuck to human skin without causing any inflamation of the skin. They are fully printable with text and barcodes and can also be used together with PATscan when in theatres and a wristband requires removal.

Michael Moorhouse of BRENMOOR says:

These three products are an exciting addition to our range and continue to help nursing staff, blood banks, pharmacy and labs to cut both costs and time. Bed days will be reduced as a result of hospitals implementing these products which is a massive aim of the NHS.

PATScan launch

Months of development work have gone into the latest product range from BRENMOOR.

PATscan-Ward and PATscan-Theatre have been designed to completely remove the need for hand writing labels and other patient ID products whilst on the ward and in theatre.

The stand alone kits work straight from out of the box and are used in conjunction with our range of wristbands and labels. They put an end to hand written sample tubes, samples and wristbands.

The scanner and printers have no need to communicate with a PAS system and can be used to scan a printed wristband from any manufacturer or supplier.

They are priced incredibly economically and we are convinced that they will quickly become a very trusted, invaluable and time saving piece of equipment.

The NPSA say that pre-printed patient labels and A4 Laser Sheet Wristband/label sets are “UNSAFE”

The UK’s NPSA (National Patient Safety Agency) have released a statement that says the pre-printing of patient labels in any form is unsafe. The statement covers all pre printed labels and Laser A4 sheets that can include wristband and label set combinations.  The advice addresses issues that has long been a concern to many within the NHS and is being sent out to all UK hospitals.

The statement said…

The NPSA considers that printing several labels with patient details at one time, so that they can be used at a later time for the patient’s care, is unsafe.   Labels should be printed only when required for the patient’s care and, where electronic systems permit, by the bedside so that the risk of the label being used for another patient is minimised.

Brenmoor have a range of labels that can be used in conjunction with hand held printer/scanners. The wristband is scanned and a label is generated in seconds and then used to identify samples. There can be no missmatching of patient information and at the end of a patient stay, there are no spare labels that need to be thrown away.
